KUNG FU ETIQUETTE
- Aways salute when you come before
any altars of gods or past Kung Fu masters.
- Salute when entering or leaving
the practice space for any reason.
- Salute at the beginning or conclusion
of any class or practice session.
- Salute to your training partner
before and after sparring, pushing hands, sam sing or
practising together.
- Salute after receiving instruction
from your sifu or instructor.
- Salute when a visiting master
enters the Kuan or your presence.
- Always receive
items from your senior using both hands, using only one hand
shows disrespect and is a sign that you don’t think that
the person deserves your full attention.
- Always allow your Sigung, Sifu
and Senior Kung Fu Brothers and Sisters to walk ahead of you.
- Always hold doors and allow your
Sigung, Sifu and Senior Kung Fu Brothers and Sisters to pass
through first. The most junior student should always hold the door
open for everyone else. They should also enter or leave last.
- The head of the table should
be reserved for the Sifu or the most senior martial artist present
with the senior students sitting closest and the most junior
students sitting furthest away.
- Always make sure that the beverage
cups and glasses of your Sigung, Sifu and Senior Kung Fu Brothers
and Sisters are full.
- Always wait for your Sifu and
seniors to start eating first before you start.
- Always pour
beverages using both hands; using only one hand shows disrespect
and is a sign that you don’t think that the person deserves
your full attention.
- Always insist on performing any
menial chore that you see your Sigung, Sifu and Senior Gongfu
Brothers and Sisters doing.
- The junior students should make
sure the class is always ready for the Sifu or senior instructors
before class starts and always tidy up at the end of class. Remember
your Sifu and instructors are there to teach you and not to be
your janitor.
- Junior students should always
watch their seniors and learn from what they do, and seniors
should always set a good example to their juniors.
